Major Depressive Disorder (Depression)
Also simply known as depression, is a mental disorder characterised by atleast two weeks of low mood that is present across most situations. It is often accompanied by low self-esteem, loss of interest in normally enjoyable activity, low energy and pain without a clear cause. Bipolar Depression (Manic Depression):
Bipolar disorder, Manic depression, Bipolar Affective Disorder, all three terms are synonymous with each others and the name of a mental health disorder affecting approximately 3% of the American population. The classic symptoms of bipolar disorder are the periodic changes in mood, alternating periods of eleveted mood and periods of depression. It is a serious and disabling disorder that shares many symptoms with other forms of clinical depression. It is generally experienced as a less severe but more cronic form of major depression. PDD was referred to as Dysthymia in previous version of the DSM.
The main sign of PDD is low,dark,or sad moodthat occurs for most of the day.for more days that are not for atleast two years. People with PDD often describe their mood as consistently sad or "down in the dumps". Other symptoms can be include:
• Poor appetite or overeating

• Low energy or fatigue
• Low self-esteem

Cause Of Depression
Depression may be caused by one factor alone or a combination of factors including biological, psychological and environmental (linked to social or family environment) factors.
Biological Factors
We are not certain what causes of depression. One of the predominant theories, proposes that depression is caused by an imbalance of naturally occurring substances called neurotransmitters in the brain and spinal cord.
Serotonin and norepinephrine are two neurotransmitters in the brain that appear to be involved in the symptoms of depression.
Psychological Factors
Individual are effected by outside events differently. Each person thought determine how he or she will experience life,which can effect whether or not they become depressed.

It is not surprising, therefore that these ways of looking at the world reinforce the negative effect of difficult situations in life,predisposing people to emotional suffering.
